VITA, the vaquita
Territory: Upper Gulf of California.
She is the newest Guardian and the one in the biggest hurry: very few vaquitas are left in the world, and all of them live in this corner of the sea.

His grandfather fished totoaba when it was legal. His father, shrimp. He got the closed sea. He sands his beached panga though he doesn't know when it will go out again. “I never killed a vaquita,” he says. “But the bill came to me.”
